Food Safe Certificate

Candidates working in the food service, preparing, storing and packing industry are required to have a current food handling or food safe certificate.

This certificate ensures that the food being prepared, received or handled is being done so that meets provincial and health standards.

Each Canadian province is in charge of setting up the provincially regulated course.

Course and certificate name and title vary slightly per province.

Variety of Different Food Safe Certificate:

Candidates in each Canadian province are required to have the following certifications.

  • Food Handler Certification – Required in Manitoba and Saskatchewan
  • FoodSafe Level 1 – Required in British Columbia and majority of Canadian Provinces.
  • FoodSafe Level 2 – Required in British Columbia and majority of Canadian Provinces.
  • Food Safety – Required in Ontario
  • AHS Food Safety – Required in Alberta

Registration:

To register and receive a food handling or food safe certificate select the course that you need from the main or side menu.

You will be re-directed to another page in which you can select your location. Once you have selected your location you will be able to select the date, time and specific location at one of our training partners.

Certification:

Candidates that successfully complete the course will receive a food handling or food safe certificate that meets provincial standards. The certificate does not expire.

Candidates will be registered into a provincial registry if applicable for the province of the course. Candidates may be required to re-certify if health inspector or regulations require a re-certification.

Course Length:

The length of basic food handling and food safe certification courses is approximately 8 hours. Higher level courses take approximately 16 hours to complete.

Course Cost:

The cost of the course varies depending on the level of certification, location and training partner. Courses vary in price from 55 to 125 dollars. Course fee’s include taxes, certification fee’s and manual.
